About

Details

Spring and Summer are the seasons for breeding for our garden birds. The first spring clutch is critical to the overall population of garden birds and the right food available in all weathers is vital.

Breeding birds use considerable energy above their normal levels, singing and attracting mates, nest building, finding and protecting nesting sites. Then the real work begins as the female needs lots of additional calcium to lay hard shelled viable eggs usually at the rate of one a day! Adult feeding time becomes restricted as brooding eggs and later feeding young take priority. They need an easy to find, reliable source of food to keep themselves fit enough to provide for their growing family.

Ark Summer Support Mix has been specifically blended to provide the extra protein and calcium birds need at this time of year, along with plenty of carbohydrates to give them the energy they need to forage for their young. By feeding Ark Summer Support Bird Food liberally during early spring and summer, on the bird table or on the ground, you give your garden birds the best prospects of breeding and fledging successfully.

This bird food is suitable for use on bird tables and for ground feeding.

Q: Is the mix Pet Safe?

A: Studies have shown that raisins can be toxic for dogs. More information can be found in our Pet Safe blog.
If you would like a mix without raisins, why not try our Ark Ground and Table Mix.

Q: Can I use this mix in my tube feeders?

A: The Summer Support Mix is designed to be fed from a ground feeding tray or bird table. For seed mixes suitable for hanging tube feeders, please see our Hearty, No Mess and Table & Feeder seed mixes.

Q: Should I really be feeding my birds in the summer?

A: Absolutely! Following the spring and early summer breeding season, there are millions more hungry mouths to feed. Nesting parents will have to work hard to feed their young, while maintaining their own energy levels. They may have to cope with dry weather, when earthworms burrow deep beneath the surface; or in wet weather, when foraging is difficult.
