About

Details

Meticulously constructed using sustainable forestry timber, this premium nest box demonstrates exceptional durability without requiring chemical treatments. The naturally weather-resistant cedar will gracefully silver with age, developing character while maintaining its structural integrity. All joints are professionally screwed together by British craftsmen, ensuring years of reliable service.

Each box features a distinctive silver birch entrance hole, creating an authentic appearance that woodpeckers seek to widen as part of their natural nesting behaviour. This expertly designed woodpecker nest box offers the perfect natural habitat for these wonderful birds.

Packed with practical features including 55mm entrance hole perfect for great spotted woodpeckers and occasionally starlings. A hinged inspection lid has an integrated camera mounting bracket should you wish to add a camera. With a thick bowl-shaped bottom and supplied with a bag of wood shavings to add to the box which woodpeckers prefer.

Position your nest box at least 3-5 metres high on a mature tree in a quiet location. For optimal results, face the entrance hole between north and south-east, always out of prevailing winds and direct sunshine. The box requires minimal maintenance - simply clean annually in autumn to prepare for spring nesting season.

Q: Do woodpeckers damage trees?

A: Woodpeckers typically don't harm healthy trees. They peck (known as drumming) for several reasons: to find food (like insects and larvae), create nesting cavities, and communicate with other woodpeckers. Most of the time, the drumming is superficial and doesn't cause lasting damage.

Q: What do woodpeckers eat?

A: A: The great and lesser spotted woodpeckers are natural insectivores but they also love peanuts and suet products like suet cakes and fatballs. Green woodpeckers are predominately insect eaters, sometimes berries and other plants and are unlikely to be attracted by the bird foods we put out.

Q: Do woodpeckers get headaches from all that pecking?

A: Pecking (drumming) does not harm woodpeckers as the design of their skull, strong neck muscles and thick and spongey bone around their brain act as shock absorbers.
