What is it?
Two section, slide out roomy hedgehog house with an innovative design. Full of practical features to keep hedgehogs safe, warm and protected throughout the year. From the robust exterior plywood material to the predator tunnel, the Pent House Hedgehog House offers excellent insulation for effective shelter. No assembly necessary, simply slide out the entrance chamber and place in the garden in a quiet, protected spot.

How does it help?
Providing the hedgehogs in your garden with a safe space to nest, breed and hibernate is vital to protect this well loved animal. This hedgehog house will provide a warm home for prickly occupants for many years to come. Clever design features such as the internal tunnel deter access from predators and good ventilation removes excess condensation, all vital benefits for the hedgehogs visiting your garden.

Sean Says:
"The extra large bed chamber and fact the roof is fixed in place means once this hedgehog house is in place in the garden, it's far more likely to be used for breeding and hibernation, as occupying hedgehogs cannot be disturbed."

Helpful – Caring – Responsible

When Sean McMenemy started Noah’s Ark Wildlife Gardens as a landscaping business back in 1991, little did he know what a huge impact he was to make on the bird feeding and garden wildlife industries over the following decades.

Over 30-years later he still brings the same passion for garden wildlife to work every day, so it’s no wonder we’re so highly respected. Our expertise lies in providing carefully selected natural food and products that offer significant benefits to wildlife – with the type of customer service only true enthusiasm for our subject can bring.

Meeting a demand for natural, nutritious wildlife food

In those early days, Sean constantly received requests for help in making his clients’ natural gardens more wildlife friendly. Requests for bird food encouraged Sean to research bird feeding, and at that time he found problems in the market with quality and service. He knew then the only way forward was to create his own natural, nutritious range of wildlife food and present it in a way which benefited both the wildlife and the customer. Ark Wildlife was born.

The company has steadily grown since those early days, now standing as one of the UK’s largest independent suppliers of bird food and garden wildlife products, despatching over 500 parcels per day across the United Kingdom.

Exceptional service, because we care more than we can put into words

No matter how large our business is now, Ark Wildlife aims to combine the convenience of an online mail order outlet with the caring, helpful touch of a specialist shop. Our people make the difference. We take great pride in the energy, commitment and enthusiasm of our ever-growing workforce, still led by our inspirational driving force, Sean. If you read through some of Sean’s blog posts you will see how knowledgeable he is and how much he cares for the welfare of our wildlife.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this hedgehog house have a viewing lid?

The Pent Hedgehog House does not have an opening lid. It is intended for breeding and/or hibernating hedgehogs which must not be disturbed. The anti-predator tunnel can be removed in the autumn to give access for cleaning and maintenance.

Do I need to add bedding to this hedgehog house?

You can add some starter material in the bed chamber if you prefer and this can help with early adoption. However, broody hedgehogs prefer to collect their own bedding material before giving birth and enough room should be left to allow for this natural behaviour. It's better to ensure plenty of appropriate bedding material in the vicinity for hedgehogs to collect themselves.

Is the Hedgehog Pent House suitable for hedgehogs to hibernate in?

This is one of the hedgehog houses we recommend for hedgehogs looking for somewhere to hibernate. The combination of insulated construction and large bed chamber make it ideal for keeping hedgehogs warm and dry over winter.

Can I put food and water in the hedgehog house?

We do not recommend putting food inside the house if you are hoping for a hedgehog to take up residence. Food (and essential water) should be placed a few feet away from the house to prevent other interested parties from disturbing any hogs inside.

How do I clean the the Hedgehog Penthouse?

You can tilt the entrance tunnel upwards to detach it from the main body to gain access for cleaning. Remove and dispose of old nesting material, and scrub with a brush using plenty of water. Ensure the house dries completely before adding new nesting material and re-siting.
