Natural Fallow Deer Antler

What is it?
Fallow deer antlers grow during the summer and are shed naturally in the following spring. They are used by the deer during the breeding season to demonstrate strength and power. They contain more protein and mineral content than bone and are slightly softer (very chewable) and contain a lot of marrow.

Our deer antlers are naturally collected from wild herds after shedding and are therefore 100% natural, cruelty-free and sustainable.

How does it help?
All mammals (including humans) need a healthy balance of calcium in their diet to maintain healthy bones and teeth. A damaging and even fatal disease called metabolic bone disorder can occur if too little calcium is present in their diet. In addition, rodents such as red and grey squirrels teeth grow continually. Therefore, it is essential for them to have hard surfaces on which to gnaw to keep their teeth short, healthy and strong.

Modern gardens and urban environments are cleared of dead animals and therefore calcium can be scarce, and hard to find. By simply scattering a few deer antlers in the environment, gives all wild mammals the opportunity to gnaw on the mineral and calcium rich ends, providing them with vital nourishment.

Fallow deer antlers are beneficial to red squirrels, grey squirrels, hedgehogs, foxes, mice and badgers. In fact they are so popular you might find animals stealing them and while this is natural behaviour, you might need to anchor them to the ground or in trees if you prefer watching the animals in your garden.

Please note: this is a product collected from the wild and size and weight will vary due to naturally occurring antler densities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I put deer antler in my garden?

Modern gardens are short of available calcium, a vital building block in animal health. By providing chewable fallow deer antler, all mammals including squirrels, hedgehogs and foxes will benefit from all the protein, minerals and trace elements otherwise unavailable to them.

My deer antler keeps disappearing, where is it going?

We cut the deer antler into sections to make the internal marrow more accessible. Animals like squirrels and foxes have an instinct to 'cache' or hide any food source. It is likely such an animal is taking the deer antler away to consume in peace later. You can try anchoring it to the ground or to a tree to keep it in the garden.

Why do you sell deer antler and what is the point of it?

Rodents such as squirrels have teeth that grow continually and it's vital they have hard surfaces on which the can gnaw. This keeps their teeth short, healthy and strong. In addition, deer antler is full of protein, calcium and minerals so while they gnaw they also reap the benefits of all the nutrition they contain.
